Problems in the practical application of glass curtain walls

Glass curtain walls are increasingly used in current buildings. Their use not only improves the grade of the entire building, but also lays the foundation for the further development of the city. However, various problems will arise in the application of glass curtain walls, such as the safety of glass curtain walls. Problems in the overall energy consumption of glass curtain walls and various problems in the use of glass curtain walls will not only pose safety hazards, but also lead to energy waste. Energy-saving glass curtain wall construction technology

2.1 Preparation and inspection of construction materials

In the preparation of construction materials, the energy-saving construction materials that best meet the actual needs should be selected based on the service life of the building, construction technology and construction cost, etc. In addition, it should be combined with the comprehensive performance of the construction materials. Among them, the key construction materials of the glass curtain wall include glass materials and aluminum alloy insulation materials. The selection of the two key materials can directly affect the energy-saving effect of the overall glass curtain wall. At present, the commonly used energy-saving glass materials are mainly Low-E, hollow and heat-absorbing glass materials.

①Low-E glass material

This type of glass material mainly includes low-emissivity and heat-reflecting glass. The focus is to reduce light radiation by reflecting light, thereby reducing indoor energy consumption. Its advantage is that it can reduce the radiation of the glass surface and save indoor energy consumption. The disadvantage is that there is a possibility of interfering with the indoor lighting effect.

②Hollow glass material

This material is formed by bonding two pieces of glass together. Because of its internal hollow structure. It can effectively reduce the dissipation of indoor heat energy, making it has a good thermal insulation and energy-saving effect. What’s more, it can effectively reduce outdoor noise.

③Heat-absorbing glass material

This type of glass material is mainly obtained by adding metal ions into the glass body. Its advantage is that it can effectively absorb light heat energy and present a variety of colors. And that can further reduce the amount of light entering the room, and achieve the purpose of saving indoor energy consumption. Aluminum alloy insulation materials are used as the frame part of the glass curtain wall. In the past, due to the high heat loss of the columns and aluminum alloy beams in the glass curtain wall, its overall insulation performance was reduced. Aluminum alloy insulation materials are used in glass curtain walls. This material integrates insulation materials into the aluminum material. Therefore, it can reduce the loss of heat energy, effectively enhancing the insulation effect of the overall glass curtain wall, and further ensuring its energy-saving effect.

2.2 Construction measurement and layout

 Check the baseline delivered by the construction unit.

Lay the standard line: Move the indoor elevation line to the working surface of the exterior wall for each floor and check it carefully. Before laying out the line, obtain the corresponding data by measuring the external dimensions of the structure and set the baseline.

 Use the standard line as the benchmark and mark the grid lines on the wall according to the design drawing.

 After the grid lines are marked, check whether the location of the embedded parts is consistent with the design. If not, adjust them in time.

Pull 2 Φ0.5~1.0mm steel wires in the horizontal and vertical directions of a single curtain wall as construction control lines. One horizontal steel wire should be equipped for each floor. If the width is large, a fulcrum should be set up every 20m to prevent the steel wire from falling. And one vertical steel wire should be equipped every 20m.

 When laying out the wires, the following actions are required:

It should be considered in combination with the deviation of the civil engineering structure. Then the deviation should be subdivided to avoid the accumulation of deviations. The connection position with other decorative surfaces should be determined. The pulled wires should be marked at the end positions, so that if there is an abnormality in the wires, one wire can be quickly pulled again. The wires should be laid out according to the requirements of the design drawings. Pay attention to the control of the baseline.

2.3 Construction of visible (hidden) frame glass curtain wall

During the actual installation process, the construction shall be carried out strictly in accordance with the requirements of the specifications. Check the position of the embedded parts. If any unqualified parts are found, they shall be adjusted immediately and reinforced. After the above processes are completed, the components of the glass curtain wall shall be installed. After the construction of the block is completed, the frame of the curtain wall shall be installed. If the design drawings have requirements for fire resistance, fireproof cotton shall be additionally provided. After the quality acceptance of the hidden construction is qualified, the glass panel shall be installed, and the joints shall be treated at last.

2.4 Installation technology of glass curtain wall keels

The keels of the glass curtain wall need to be connected to the beams and slabs. When installing the vertical keel, tension rods are usually used. They need to be connected to the connecting parts by bolts first, and then the bolt positions are adjusted so that their vertical positions match the floor elevation. The horizontal position matches the floor slab layout, and the distance between the keels is measured. The vertical main keel needs to be installed from bottom to top, while preventing the quality influence of the keel material caused by temperature. After the main keel in this direction is installed, the positioning blocks between the vertical frames should be removed, and sealant should be injected into the expansion joints. After all the vertical keels are installed, start installing the transverse keels. During the installation process, in order to avoid the horizontality of the transverse keel being affected by the wrong installation position, the installation should be carried out under the premise that the measurement position and the installation position of the transverse keel can be completely matched. In addition, when installing the transverse keel, it is necessary to immediately perform a proofreading inspection after each layer of keel is installed to ensure the horizontality of the final multi-layer transverse keel after installation, and avoid secondary rework. Also importantly, a certain distance of expansion joints is reserved between the vertical and transverse keels to prevent the overall quality from being affected by temperature changes.

2.5 Lightning protection, moisture-proof and heat-insulating measures

During the entire construction process, weather factors must be taken into account. There are many rainy and lightning storms in summer, so protective measures must be taken in building decoration and decoration projects. According to the main structure, lightning protection measures need to be installed on each floor to enhance the lightning protection performance of the building. In order to ensure that the fire protection and heat insulation performance of the house meets the requirements of relevant standards, the fire protection level and zoning of the building should be considered during construction, and a suitable and standard fire insulation layer should be selected. According to actual needs, choose a suitable waterproof and moisture-proof construction process. Reduce the possibility of fireproof and thermal insulation materials losing their effectiveness due to moisture. At the same time, materials such as glass foam and non-flammable rock wool can be used to increase the energy-saving and fire-proof functions of buildings.

2.6 Glass curtain wall lightning rod installation

During the construction of the glass curtain wall, the connection points of the lightning protection system are set on each floor based on the actual building structure. And it is scientifically connected to the embedded parts of each floor to effectively protect the indoor electrical equipment and the overall structure. During the installation process, the construction personnel need to inspect the actual connection status between the lightning protection system and the equalizing ring. If they are not completely connected, they need to be connected by welding. And after welding, the welding quality and whether the weld length is greater than 80mm should be inspected.

2.7 Glass Panel and Window Sash Construction Technology

During the installation of glass panels, construction workers should ensure that they are in a dust-free environment to avoid dust mixing between glass panels, and meanwhile ensure that the glass panels and frames are clean enough. This is the premise for ensuring the quality of glass panel connection. To ensure that the protective layer is not damaged, it should be set on the outside of the glass panel. When actually carrying out the operation, necessary protective measures should be taken to prevent the glass panel from falling off and causing safety accidents. During the installation of window sashes, construction workers must check the window sashes to ensure that they meet the requirements of the design drawings.
