Innovative Facade Engineering for Burj Al Mana Tower: A Fusion of Glass and Mashrabiya
The iconic Burj Al Mana Tower in Doha, Qatar, is a breathtaking architectural masterpiece that seamlessly blends modern glass curtain wall systems with traditional Arabic mashrabiya design elements. This prestigious project, spanning an impressive 42,000 square meters of unitized glass curtain wall and 37,000 square meters of intricate mashrabiya sunshades, commenced installation in 2019 and is set to become a new landmark in the upscale West Bay district of Doha.
SunFrame Facade Engineering (SFFE), a leading curtain wall contractor and facade consultant, was entrusted with this prestigious facade project in late 2017 after a rigorous selection process. The tower’s unique mashrabiya facade design, a traditional Arabic motif characterized by intricate geometric patterns, presented complex challenges that required innovative solutions from SFFE’s team of facade design experts.
Leveraging cutting-edge 3D modeling and Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies, SFFE meticulously illustrated the complex geometric shapes and forms required for the mashrabiya sunshades. This digital approach ensured precision and seamless integration with the architectural design intent. Utilizing state-of-the-art CNC machining and 3D cutting technologies, the custom aluminum components were precisely fabricated to bring the intricate mashrabiya patterns to life.
The high-performance unitized glass curtain wall system, spanning an impressive 42,000 square meters, incorporates advanced low-e coated insulating glass units (IGUs) and thermally broken aluminum framing to optimize energy efficiency and occupant comfort within the tower. SFFE’s expertise in unitized curtain wall design, engineering, and installation ensured a seamless integration of the glass and mashrabiya elements, creating a harmonious and visually stunning facade.
With a focus on quality, sustainability, and design excellence, the Burj Al Mana Tower project showcases SFFE’s capabilities in delivering cutting-edge curtain wall and facade solutions for iconic high-rise projects worldwide, combining innovative engineering with cultural sensitivity and aesthetic appeal.
